This policy covers both the AI Terminal desktop application and this website (itechtone.com/products/aiterminal). It explains what data exists, what we — Tech Tone — actually receive, and what stays entirely on your device.
1. The Short Version
What we never see
- ✓ Your chat messages or AI conversations
- ✓ Your terminal commands or command history
- ✓ Your API keys for OpenAI, Anthropic, or any other provider
- ✓ Your files, folders, or anything inside them
What we do receive
- A version number and OS type, only when the app checks for updates
- An aggregate download count on this website (not linked to who you are)
2. Information We Don't Collect
AI Terminal has no account system, no sign-up, and no login. We don't run analytics or telemetry inside the app, and we don't collect your chat content, terminal commands, file contents, or folder paths. None of that is ever transmitted to Tech Tone.
3. Information Stored Only on Your Device
AI Terminal stores a few things locally, using the app's own local storage on your computer — never sent to us:
- API keys you enter for OpenAI, Anthropic, or a custom endpoint
- Which AI model you've selected
- Your light/dark theme preference
Chat conversations and terminal command history exist only in memory while the app is open — closing AI Terminal clears them. Nothing is written to a project file or synced anywhere.
4. The One Thing Our Server Receives: Update Checks
AI Terminal periodically asks our server whether a newer version exists, sending only the app's current version number and your operating system (Windows, macOS, or Linux) — no device identifiers, no personal information. As with any web request, our server sees the IP address the request came from, the same as any website would.
5. Third-Party AI Providers — Read This One
AI Terminal is "bring your own model." Depending on what you connect:
- Ollama (local): Everything stays on your machine. Nothing is sent over the internet.
- OpenAI, Anthropic, or a custom endpoint: Your messages and relevant context (your OS, active shell, current folder, and a summary of recent commands) are sent directly from your device to that provider, using the API key you provided. Tech Tone is not in that data path at any point — we don't see it, store it, or have access to it.
Whichever provider you choose has its own privacy policy and data handling practices, separate from this one. Check theirs if you want to know how they handle what you send them.
6. This Website
This product page doesn't use cookies, analytics scripts, or ad trackers. Our web server logs standard request information (like IP address and browser type) the way any web server does. The download counter shown on the page is a simple aggregate number — it counts downloads, not people, and isn't tied to any visitor's identity.
7. Children's Privacy
AI Terminal isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13 (or the relevant minimum age in your region).
8. Your Rights
Because AI Terminal collects so little to begin with, there's rarely anything to request, correct, or delete. If you've connected a third-party AI provider, exercise your rights with that provider directly for whatever they hold. If you have a question about data handling under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act or any other applicable law, contact us using the details below and we'll address it.
9. Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
